Transitional housing facility, emergency shelter in Green Timbers moves forward
(September 29, 2018, updated October 1, 2018)

Proposal includes 30-bed emergency shelter

Surrey council has moved forward a proposal to build a six-storey transitional housing facility and emergency shelter next to Green Timbers Urban Forest.

The City of Surrey submitted an application on behalf of BC Housing on June 21, 2018 to construct a six-storey transitional housing facility and emergency centre at 14150 Green Timbers Way.

City council voted Monday (Oct. 1) to give its approval for staff to draft a development permit, and also approved the terms of a development variance permit, which will now go to public notification.

Ready to represent… with gingerbread?
The Downtown Surrey BIA’s Gingerbread Village is back for the second year. This event adds some creative fun to the holidays and raises money for the Surrey Christmas Bureau. It’s also a chance to win prize money in time for Christmas. I’m not sure how you could make a gingerbread forest… but perhaps someone has ideas? Let me know if you want the contact details!

A petition about parks, for the next Mayor and Council
Save Surrey Parks is a group of citizens dedicated to protecting Surrey’s parks and green spaces. Save Surrey Parks will petition the newly elected Surrey Mayor and Council to instruct staff to start the process that will ultimately end up in giving numerous Surrey’s Parks and designated green spaces the highest level of protection that is available under the law. The Save Surrey Parks group is committed to ending the use of the Alternative Approval Process for removing the dedicated status of parks.
